Since Cater & Blumer was established in 1923 we have maintained our commitment to providing quality legal service to all of our clients.
Cater & Blumer provide a wide range of legal services to the local region with full time offices in Griffith, Leeton and branch offices in Hillston and Coleambally.
Our History
Our firm began with strong associations with both Griffith and Leeton communities. The founding partners, Rupert Cater and Paul Blumer, maintained offices in both Leeton and Griffith.
Paul continued to practice and ran the firm until he died in 1979. It was a remarkable coincidence that Paul’s son Garry was born on the 1st July 1923, the day the firm commenced practice and he never thought of doing anything else but law.
The advent of World War II saw Garry join the R.A.A.F. as a Fighter Pilot with him serving in the Middle East and Italy with Distinction. He was shot down four times, once behind the enemy lines whereby he was initially hidden by Italian partisans from the Germans and he then led a group of Italians over the mountains to safe territory. On 10th March 1945 he was shot down, suffering horrific injuries resulting in him returning to Australia by a hospital ship. After numerous operations and reparation at the Sydney Reparation Hospital, he enrolled at Sydney University. After graduating and completing his articles and having further operations, he returned to Griffith to join the firm in 19th March 1952.
He developed his own style of practicing law, “leave it to me and it will be done” with honesty and integrity, until he retired on 1 May 2006. He has been instrumental in developing the excellent reputation the firm has achieved.
Ian Geddes joined the firm in 1981 becoming a partner in 1984. Ian came from a rural background and maintained involvement in the third generation family farm at Binya Hills. His easy going and relaxed manner matched with a conscientious and competitive edge was reflective through his work and achievements.
Our Present
The firm’s current principal is Mark Blumer.
Cater and Blumer continues to provide a wide range of legal and non-legal rural counseling services to the local region, with full time offices in Griffith and Leeton, and branch offices in Coleambally and Hillston. Cater & Blumer have rural clients from Jerilderie, Hay, Ivanhoe, Cobar, Lake Cargelligo, Narrandera and many other areas throughout the Riverina.
We provide services for individuals and families as well as farming enterprises, small and large business and corporations. We pride ourselves on offering a personalized service to our clients. With our firm we have the breadth and wealth of experience to assist our clients with all their legal needs.
Although we have a long and proud tradition providing quality legal services within our region, we see ourselves as a progressive firm.
