Cater and Blumer

Family Farm Succession Planning Seminar Monday 19 August 2024 in Griffith

On Monday 19 August 2024, NSW Farmers will host a succession planning seminar for family farms, together with Cater & Blumer Solicitors, in Griffith.

Mark Blumer, Director of Cater & Blumer, today commented that: ‘Succession planning for family farms is now an urgent necessity.  The price of farmland has increased threefold in the last 12 years, but farm profitability hasn’t kept pace.  This has further complicated the transfer of family farms to the next generation.

‘Succession planning means working out who will take over the family farm and when – but you do need specialist professionals to work out the how.  Every family and each farm are different – there is no one size fits all approach.  Careful consideration needs to be given to how the retiring generation will be provided with financial independence and security while facilitating the next generation to take the reins along with the interests of off-farm children.  This isn’t easy – but it can be done with the right team.

Mr Blumer continued: ‘Cater & Blumer have been providing legal services to clients in the Riverina since 1923.  We have dedicated family law, property law and estate planning teams, and work closely with allied professionals, so that all aspects of a succession plan can be properly considered and effectively implemented.’

Mr Blumer continued: ‘We are very pleased to be hosting this seminar together with NSW Farmers.  Then Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and Coleambally Irrigation Area are predominantly farmed by family-owned enterprises.  NSW Farmers and Cater & Blumer are committed to supporting the sustainability of family farms – they are the backbone of our social and economic life.

‘To learn more about how to keep families farming, we urge local farmers to attend the seminar, where they will hear from a range specialist succession planning professionals.

The succession planning seminar will be held at the Gem Hotel, 201/207 Banna Avenue, Griffith NSW 2680, from 5 pm to 7 pm, on Monday 19 August 2024.
